Dog Design: Barkitecture
They are our best friends and our best clients. When designing for clients with fur babies, we love to use thoughtful design touches to make sure the spaces are durable, functional and extremely gorgeous.
There are a couple of ways we can integrate puppies into our design process, and we’re spilling the tea.
Durable Fabrics: When designing custom pieces, we like to consider the occasional muddy paw. Our clients love Performance Fabrics and Indoor/Outdoor options for upholstery, which gives the fabrics more longevity and bounce back to life.
Neutral to Dark Tones: Where we can’t clean it, it’s sometimes nice to disguise it. That being said, although were not against the all-white upholstered look, there are ways to achieve that fresh Mykonos look with more sandy neutral tones that will stand up better with our pets.
Clever Design: Cue hiring a professional. Especially when we are getting into space planning mud rooms, kitchen and pantry spaces. All excellent spaces to incorporate doggy doors, baths and our current repeat favourite, custom dog feeders. There isn’t a space that is thoughtfully designed for our puppies that doesn’t “wow” our clients and their friends. Be thoughtful, they are your fur babies after all!
Doggy Bath - Probably one of the greatest gifts you could give yourself and your furniture. A custom bath can not only be functional but also look seamless and great with the rest of your house. Take it from Monika Hibbs, who hands down has still designed our favourite doggy bath to date.
Doggy Door - this is such a beautiful option if you have smaller pets that you want to allow in and out of the house without having to fully open the door. We love a good custom door, and let’s be honest, these just look so chic when they’re ready for their fur trespassers.
Integrated Doggy Bowl - Let’s get clever with design! One of our favourite additions to a mud room or corner of a kitchen, a hidden dog bowl. A great way to tuck the food away and also keep the kitchen looking as thoughtful and integrated as possible. Plus what pup doesn’t love a little routine.
The Dog House - If the interiors aren’t where it’s at for your pup, then its time to move it outside. These days being in the dog house can be super stylish. Linking this one here for all those looking for early holiday gifts!
