It's Our Birthday!

This spring marks a year that we’ve re-launched Mia Parres Design Inc.!

We’re so thrilled with all of our growth in the last year and look forward to what design and life adventures are ahead.

It’s lovely to reflect each year to see what transformations our company has taken, and what roads have led us to this wonderful place. We are big believers in reflecting on what lessons helped shape us and manifesting what our goals for the future are. We have big dreams for Mia Parres Design Inc.!

I moved back from Grand Cayman to re-launch my design business and be closer to family and friends. I had no idea how incredible it was going to be and what other opportunities were going to present themselves along this new road of re-building my brand.

I moved permanently (forever! I didn’t think I would ever come back!) to Cayman at one of the heights of my career as a designer. I had just launched my second show on HGTV and my high end residential design business was booming in Canada. We packed up our Jeep and a 40’ container of every single thing we owned and made the move. It was honestly one of the bravest things I’ve done, and I would (literally!) do it all over again.

It was a leap of faith and for love (but even some of the hardest moments) I cherish every single experience of my time on that beautiful island. With all that I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, I know it’s only a matter of time before we go back.

It was such an incredible experience to immerse myself in an entirely new realm of high end design in the Caribbean. Working with Design Studio Interiors (also run by two Canadians!) and being surrounded by such a talented, supportive team, allowed me to have some pretty unbelievable design experiences. I will share more of these with you in the coming weeks and months!

I think at the core of it, as we a designer and business owner, we are always growing and learning from new experiences. It’s part of the thrill and challenge of being a successful designer. Living down there taught me that I’m adaptable, that my business model works in both Canada and Cayman. It also taught me that your friends ARE also your family, I miss them all every day and love keeping in touch so we can visit again soon.

And most of all living there taught me not to be afraid! Be bold, chase your dreams, and with that I moved home and re-launched Mia Parres Design Inc.

This past year we worked closely with a branding company Café Au Lait in the South of France to re-build our overall look and re-launch our website: www.miaparresdesign.com

It was so important to us to bring an authentic version our brand to our socials – I think consistency and cohesiveness are so key across all platforms. We wanted our projects to have a seamless back drop to portray our beautiful new client projects. We’re excited to (finally!) be shooting some of these spaces and to be able to share more original work.

Another important part of re-launching MPD Inc. was to make sure we protected our clients and ourselves. Working with the right software, accountants, lawyers and learning from other designers around us has been invaluable. Putting systems in place has changed everything about our business and made us so much stronger, more reliable, and all around a more seamless business that offers everything from new build structures to consultations.

We also picked up right where we left off with HGTV, filming our third show, Family Home Overhaul, and working on Farmhouse Facelift as a designer. So much of this landscape has changed and continues to evolve both during the pandemic and post pandemic, but we’re so thrilled with the way it’s challenged us as a design team to evolve and step up our game! The timelines have been wild, but truly has been so rewarding to see our team thrive.

It’s also taught me a valuable lesson as a business owner, to ask for help, scale my business larger, grow my company by hiring some pretty kick ass and talented designers to work with us. Before, I thought I needed to do everything myself, but now I realize our company is so much stronger when we have a team from top to bottom taking care of every single detail. It’s also allowed me to focus on growing my business, marketing and pivoting into new realms I am so excited to explore – home goods!

This year also help us launch two incredible sides of our company, our design shop Mia Parres Home & Design and my beloved bed linen and lounge wear company, ABODE.

This is only the beginning but we love having you along for the journey with us!
