Project Reveal: Mariner Condo Kitchen

The day is finally here! We we’re busy with so many condo kitchen projects this winter, but this has to be one of our favourites. You can check out the entire project reveal in our Projects section, but we thought it would also be fun to share the before/afters.

These older condo kitchens didn’t have a lot of thought put into functionality, layout and…let’s face it, design aesthetic. Ha! The goal at the time was to create cheap, uniform kitchens, and mass purchase for entire buildings of over 200+ units. Fast forward a few decades, a few owners. Now we’re looking at a real estate market that favours the savvy owner, one who wants to increase the overall value by investing in the design.

Let’s start with having fabulous clients. Our client really put his trust in us and saw the overall vision. I don’t think either of us can still believe this is the same condo. We started with the floors throughout, ripping out the old mixture of tile and dated engineered hardwood, and laying down a consistent engineered wide plank oak wood floor. Then of course, the biggest change to the kitchen was the layout. This simple change allowed for so much more natural light, functionality and truly helps to make this space feel like a home in the sky, versus a small space shoe box condo.

Then of course there are the finishes. Updating the cabinetry was a game-changer. We think this investment is one of the most important for lifestyle as well as for any future re-sale of your property. We went with a simple shaker door style, oversized masculine matte black hardware knobs and pulls and super clean counter tops that travel up the backsplash, adding that perfect dash of modern.

Overall our client was super pleased with the final result, and instead of immediately listing and selling this gorgeous new space, he is taking the time to move in and enjoy it himself! That being said, a lot of planning, research and thought went into the financials of this project, as do with any of our projects. It’s important to know your clients goals for what they want to achieve with a renovation or remodel.
