Making an Entrance

It’s all about first impressions!

And we couldn’t imagine a better place to continue to kick off our blog than the entryway. We believe in greeting our guests with a design “moment”, a space that will set the tone for your style and carry throughout your home.

Step 1: Anchor your space

This is important because this piece can either be all about form or function. Determining what you need this space to function as is a great place to start. Do you need a place to sit and put your shoes on? Perhaps a bench. Do you need a place to store your keys, wallet, gloves, ear pods? Perhaps it’s a console with storage. Is this an entrance mostly used by guests? Perhaps this is a clean simple console piece.

At MPD we also love to consider mixing textures and materials. This might be a great place for a vintage piece or a piece that is super textured and fabulous!

Step 2: Grounding your space - Rugs or Tiles?

Depending on the level of renovation or décor you are undertaking, having a grounding element, such as a bold, textural rug, or a patterned, dramatic tile can really bring some cohesion to your entry space.

You want your space to be framed, impactful but also have the perfect base layer.

Step 3: Add lighting

Illuminating your entry way can help create an entire V I B E. Statement table lamps are also something that really resonate in singles and can make such a beautiful glow when you first walk into your space.

Step 4: Create balance by adding a focal point

Add in an oversize mirror piece of artwork to tie together the furniture and rug. This trio will be hit and all you will need now are the fun bits – décor!

Your focal point can be something bold and dramatic, like a large scale piece of artwork, ornate frame, or can be simple and understanted with a thin metal frame. Again, at MPD we like to consider the elements we are mixing and matching and have some fun with this moment you are creating.

Step 5: Layers on layers – décor and artwork

This is your moment to shine! We love a good key catch-all, and incorporating some green elements, like a vase of Eucalyptus or fresh flowers. This is also a wonderful place to display what are pigeon holed as coffee table books. We also love a good collection of baskets, a pair of ottoman or some varying sizes of ceramics. This is your moment to really add some personal touches!

So many of our clients have smaller spaces to work with in terms of their entry way, so we will put together some unique ways you can maximize small space throughways with storage and style as well!

In the meantime, big scale inspiration can also be tailored down to any size space. We’re here to help you dream big! We love connecting with you on all social platforms and would love to hear more of what you would like to see. Comment below!
